For a brief time in the early 1990s, the NEOGEO was the pinnacle of the video game world. An elite, exclusive console that didn't just replicate the arcade experience, as so many 8- and 16-bit consoles tried to do. It was the arcade experience, pixel for pixel, on the home television.
Born in the pre-polygon era, the NEOGEO was a pure 2D system that spawned some of the most famous game series such as Fatal Fury , The King of Fighters , Samurai Shodown and of course Metal Slug .
NEOGEO: A Visual History is the first officially licensed NEOGEO art book of its kind to be published in English. The book is a pictorial tribute to all things NEOGEO and is packed with beautiful images divided into various chapters including hardware, box art, character and concept art, and pixel art. These images were gathered and photographed from around the world and then handpicked to appear in this unique and exclusive volume. NEOGEO: A Visual History also includes official interviews with key personnel involved in the history of NEOGEO, including producer Yasuyuki Oda, artist Tatsuhiko Kanaoka ( Falcoon ), and composer Hideki Asanaka ( sha-v ).
The book is 400 pages in A4 format and is available in hardback only. It is printed throughout with gold metallic ink and the cover is made of thread rather than glue, making it much more durable and opening flat so as to minimise the loss of artwork in the cover. It has been produced using the best printing techniques and will grace any gamer's coffee table.
NEOGEO: A Visual History promises to be a true collector's item for all fans of the NEOGEO system and classic games in general. It offers a fascinating insight into the world of the mystical NEOGEO console - something that was so out of reach for many of us in the 90s.
This latest reprint of NEOGEO: A Visual History includes 8 additional pages. Additional pages in "THE LATER YEARS" cover new releases such as the NEOGEO Mini, the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, and the 2019 reboot of Samurai Shodown, and additional pages in "PIXEL ART" cover Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits Bushidō Retsuden.
