Launched in 1985, the Amiga ushered in a new era of home computers. Its powerful 16-bit Motorola CPU and dedicated graphics and audio chipsets made it an instant hit among gamers who were using their 8-bit systems wanted to leave behind, as well as among artists and musicians who wanted to enter the digital world.

Early titles such as Defender of the Crown , Barbarian and Hybris demonstrated the Amiga's graphical qualities, while arcade-perfect conversions of Marble Madness , Space Harrier and Rainbow Islands showed that the Amiga could rival the power of dedicated machines. Over the next decade it would become home to an extraordinary variety of titles; games such as Rocket Ranger, Populous, Cannon Fodder, Speedball and Worms introduced new genres and helped redefine the video game landscape.

On around 420 pages, Commodore Amiga: a visual compendium presents more than 140 of the greatest titles and brings them to life with double-page screenshots or a loading page. Each game is accompanied by quotes and comments from well-known Amiga artists, developers and publishers, including RJ Mical, David Braben, Sid Meier, Ron Gilbert, Julian Eggebrecht, Tobias Richter, Dave Gibbons and many more.

As well as the games themselves, it also covers the origins of the hardware and the vibrant demoscene, and includes interviews with artists and profiles of the major game publishers.
